UCI DHI  World Cup Round 1 Maribor Slovenia

We arrived in Maribor to be faced by a truly awesome weather forecast.....rain more rain and then more rain for the whole weekend.

The forecast was right it rained from the moment we arrived till the moment we left 72 hours of steady and sometimes heavy rain left the track a gnarly mudbath with the longest list of DNF's we have ever seen at World Cup race.

Amazingly both Gareth and Alex loved it 'just like home', they both agreed that the track would ride in but it never did, the rain just made the mud deeper and then the holes appeared. Watching the 4X final on Saturday was brilliant it was soooooooo muddy that you could not tell the riders apart.

Downhill practice went well for both Gareth and Alex until Alex had a big crash and ended up with concussion, a bruised shoulder and a nasty gash in his thigh where the saddle dug in for some reason, he thought he had cocked up on a big jump, but it turned out that his rear shock had leaked and lost pressure, had no damping and he was passenger (or not) after that.

Shock fixed and back to the task, having started in 229th place he qualified in 178th place, so a big place improvement when just getting down safely was an achievement and espacially as so many crashed and DNF'd, still 35 seconds off the final qualifying place so more time in the Gym and more practice ahead in between his A2 level exams.

Gareth was feeling very confident about qualifying for the final 80 having had a good practice run in the morning, it was not to be.....he started his qualifying run only to find his goggles smeared with mud......he pulled off a tearoff but they all came off in one go and worse the mud was on the inside of the goggles....a result of the long ride down from the top of the ski lift to the actual start gate.

He finished in 118th place and was pretty upset about how it all happened....however a valuable lesson learned and he did make it down safely, so that was a bonus.

The journey home was an epic for all concerned as the Slovenian and Austrian airports were closed.... Assistant Team Manager, Graham, desereves a medal 27+ hours almost non-stop in the 'silver arrow' Maribor to Mid Wales to get fellow riders and their kit home in time for AS level exams on Tuesday, beers all round at Fort Bill then Manon and Jason !!!!!!!

Maribor mud nothing quite like it !!!

2009 Our first season

Our UCI World Cup Downhill Mountainbike race team has been extremely successful during the 2009 season, winning the UK National and the Maxxis Cup International Championships outright. We now wish to re-brand the team to take advantage the new opportunities that this success offers.

In 2009 we did not work with any commercial partners and were entirely funded as an unbranded team by our principals. We feel that this is an unexploited opportunity and we are inviting businesses that we feel would be appropriate partners to help us to benefit from our success and achieve our new targets.

We worked very hard during 2009, our inaugural season, to build our solid reputation on the world cycling stage. Our professional approach, our attention to detail, our immaculate presentation and results way beyond our realistic expectations, have lead to the possibility of high levels of added value for any future partners.

With existing live TV coverage of all the UCI World Cup races, live webcast and satellite TV coverage set to expand again in 2010, we feel that our team’s achievements could provide your business with a special opportunity.

Our sport has gained a unique reputation for being clean cut, exciting, professional, environmentally friendly and extremely popular with young people and families alike worldwide. Our World Cup event at FortWilliam drew a crowd of over 25,000 paying fans this year.

Many large and successful businesses have proven, by their involvement, that this valuable reputation has given them positive exposure to a unique and growing market throughout the world.

In 2010 we have secured the services of some of the top young successful athletes to further strengthen our line-up adding to our TV and live streaming coverage in 2010.

If you feel that your company could gain an advantage by working with us, we can assure you that we will add value to any investment you are prepared to make in our disciplined, fit and dedicated young athletes.
